Most of us will be familiar with the old dot matrix printer, the green paper and white striped perforated edges and the 1980s style font. It brings back memories of days gone by, when computing was really easy, right? However, many of the younger generations are not familiar this technology, instead of being reared in the output quality of inkjet printers modern day. They take your brilliant photos and 25 pages per minute print times for granted never thinking to ask how technology was developed. Well, this article hopes to change that, giving account of the history of inkjet printing, as well as a brief look at its possible future.
Although the first range of inkjet printers in shelves in the 1980s, development began nearly 20 years earlier, when the enormous potential manufacturers of printers, a small jet spray ink on a page to create the final image. There were numerous technical problems to overcome though, and this was reflected in the price of the first machines available the public, the Hewlett Packard DeskJet cost over $ 1000 when it was released in 1988!
So How Does inkjet printer? There various technologies involved, but predominantly operate to push the ink drops of varying size in any media may wish to print. Three of the four major manufacturers used print cartridges that have a current running through them, this current creates a bubble of ink to form in the nozzle that propels the droplet ink on the page. Print industrial inkjet has undergone many transformations, with large format inkjet printing long available as well as smaller handheld instruments designed for printing labels and bar codes on products at incredibly low cost.
Its hard to imagine that technology Inkjet can go in the future and what other applications might be used. But a new manufacturer has recently launched an inkjet printer capable of printing 30, 6 "x4" photos a minute (about 25 times faster than standard inkjet) and at a fraction of the cost traditional impressions. If this is anything to go by, future development is likely to be significantly faster than it did in the last 30 years more or less!
