The K60 is a great machine in many ways but, and this is a big BUT… HP purposely left out a very important feature that the machine is entirely capable of. Black and White copying! That’s right… if you put in ANYTHING with color on it and press copy, you will get a much more expensive and slower color copy. This works out great for HP because it uses lot’s more of their expensive color ink, but not for the user. Try copying a sheet of yellow note paper with a few handwritten notes and prepare for a rather slow copy that uses a lot of the yellow ink in your color cartridge!
This is completely inexcusable considering the less expensive T45 does both color and B&W copies. It has a B&W copy button and a color copy button. You wouldn’t think that moving up to one of HP’s more expensive multifunction models would mean the loss of an important feature would you?
If you’re going to be doing a lot of copying, think twice about this machine. Of course, the K80 has the same B&W Copy button that the T45 does, but do you really want to spend another $100 for a feature that any reasonable person would assume should already be in the K60? In case you’re wondering, there is no menu option to enable B&W copying in the K60, it just isn’t there. I have verified this with HP’s tech support who find this missing feature equally baffling.
For this reason, I can’t give it more than a three. I’d give it a 2.5 if I could.

The K60 is the perfect home & business tool. It has color faxing(stand alone or through PC), color scanning, color copying and even e-mail. Colors are vibrant and rich. Very Quick black printing, copying and fast color copies. Size wise, the machine is a tad bulky but for all it does who could complain. Paper tray is 250 sheet capacity and faxes and copies have their own output bin to seperate. A nice feature is that the PC Modem, and answering macine and phone all plug into the K60 and work through it. No need for multiple lines or splitters. HP Excellent job.

You cannot make a copy in black and white. It doesn’t seem like a issue until you add up all costs for a color cartridge. You are probably thinking that you don’t copy that many document but you will be surprised how much you use the copy function once you have the convenience of a printer/copier in your home. Furthermore, the time it takes to make a copy (color only, of course) is ridiculous. Tip: place document on glass, press copy and get a good night’s sleep.
You can print documents from your computer as black and white, but you can’t make a copy of anything in black and white (unless it is black and white). Try making a copy of your notes from yellow legal paper or white paper that has the blue lines or a document with any color. If you look at most original documents (credit card statements, letters w/letterhead/logos, financial documents, etc.), you will notice they have color – especially the entire background is usually color. Good Luck.

After purchasing the K60 and hooking it up, I checked the reviews here to see what was said about the product in things I should look for. I know this is backwards, but I got a great deal on it, and figured I could return it anyway.
Despite some of the poor reviews, I am 100% satisifed with the K60. Sure pure black and white copies would be nice, but then shouldn’t a copy be a copy, color and all? If I really need a black and white only, I can scan it, and print it, though I can’t ever see myself doing it in reality.
As for the scanner, the quality is excellent, rivaling that from my Epson Perfection, and as for print quality, my 970CSE is not gonna have to work so hard. They both share the same print cartridges which is a great bonus for me.
The fax works great, and I love the way it integrates with my existing software to make life easy, which is exactly why I retired my old Sharp fax and went with a multi-function device.
My biggest complaint, minor as they are, is the size of this unit, and the documentation. It dwarfs the old Sharp fax machine I had making it look a little out of place on my desk.
As for the documentation, HP needs to re-evaluate it’s target market for this product. At [price] this unit warrants a real users manual that describes the many features of the K60 in detail. I’d expect the included manual to be included in a product that costs half the price such as one intended for the home market, not an office product. A more detailed manual would save HP money in the long run with a reduction in questions to their phone support, as I’ve already placed two calls.
If you are looking for a multi-function device with great scan and print quality, then the K60 hits the mark. If black and white copies from color documents are a major need, you may want to look elsewhere, but I can’t imagine not buying it for that reason alone.
