A DAT file is one that can store any kind of information. In general, especially created for the application that is designed for posting at both the rate and the DAT file and stores the information may vary by application running. Most DAT files are usually stored in the format binary. But if DAT file stores data in plain text format, you can still use a text editor to open a DAT file and read its contents. However, this not possible in the case of all DATs, because all the DAT files are not stored in plain text format and when DAT is a binary file format that can not be read with a text editor. Because a DAT file does not have any particular format is very difficult to find out the original application that created it. There can be many clues yet which is within the DAT. These tracks can be used to decipher the exact origin of DAT. However, this is not always possible, especially if the file is very large and is stored in binary form.
There are several applications that can be used or DAT Open file formats. These include Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Visual Studio, Internet Explorer, Nullsoft Winamp and Pitney Bowes MapInfo. However, even if you figure out the type of application used to create a particular DAT, does not guarantee that you will be able to open a large number of applications with it as most applications are not compatible with the DAT file formats. The most DAT common is Winmail.dat sending an email that you created in rich text format to the recipient in the form of an attachment if it is RTF enabled.
