VXA Tape Format backup tape drive reads and writes the information in the data package "form. Before putting your data on VXA Tape data, the data consists of long chains is then split into smaller units known as packets of data. "Subsequently, the VXA tape drive writes data into the data cartridge. Another new mechanism called "read after write", ensures data accuracy and integrity. This new mechanism has designed to ensure long term durability and exceptional reliability of VXA tape. 64 bytes to a data packet. During the first pass, the buffer VXA preserved correctly read the data packets. Data packets that are lost during the first pass are read through the following steps. Then packages missing data are added to chains to complete all information. After completion of the data is sent to the host system. This recording technique VXA used is similar to that used in the re-writable CDs, and Internet networking.
New error correction system has been designed for the format VXA tape consisting of 4 levels. This error correction process completes its operation in 2 stages. In the first stage error correction Reed-Solomon ECC is added each of the packages that have the ability to eliminate typical errors that may result from noise or phase shift. Then in the next phase, the buffer VXA Tape form a matrix of data packets that have been collected by the buffer.
This matrix of data packets includes a 3-dimensional line of Reed-Solomon ECC consisting Y-, Diagonal and the X axis ECC. This error correction system of VXA is the ability to correct up to 2 packets lost in each diagonal, 2 in each column and 2 in each one row of the array buffer. Therefore, this mechanism effective error correction minimizes the error rate of 1x10-17. This type of error can be easily understood by an example that is equivalent to finding a single grain in a football stadium has been completely filled with sand. VSO (variable speed operation) is a highly efficient mechanism introduced in the media VXA tape data to improve performance level and data integrity. The variable velocity technique has been developed to allow VXA drive to alter the speed of the tape so that it can be paired with a host transfer rate. VSO superior functionality ensures data reliability and cost effective operations.
