We've had our hamster Daisy over a year, now we're worried!?
He eats like a normal hamster, sleeping like a normal hamster, runs on his wheel up and down her new cage, as well (the cage Toppers add another 2 levels) and their behavior is as it always has. The other day I saw a place in it, but I thought it was water seepage in your water bottle. I got up and really looked back and a point of his baldness. I've never seen it pick up same and I've only read the horror stories about bald hamsters. I'm so scaredddd. It is not completely bald, with hair a little less and you could say. any ideas?
There are a number of conditions that can cause the hamster to be bald, or areas of skin loss. Hamsters move during the summer and autumn, at this point may have periods when their coats can become irregular and have areas of skin loss. This can happen even in times of sudden temperature changes and extreme. The loss of skin due to move is nothing to worry, the hair will start growing again in a week or less. All species of hamsters dumb, but the Chinese hamster and are generally less affected than the Russian or Syrian hamster. A diet low in protein may also be associated with skin loss, in this case the increased protein in the diet can help. Skin loss can be related to age, this occurs in older hamsters, and the shield can begin thinning a bit, usually around 12-14 months of age or older, (at 12 months of age is middle age) that this occurs around the belly, hind legs and hip area first.
