For a smaller unit, the  is a desktop copy machine with some impressive features. With a footprint that allows for home or small office use, the 250 sheet paper tray is large, and Canon has even implemented a single sheet bypass slot for multiple non standard media types, allowing for stand alone copy use that can reproduce onto as small as a business card, and media types as thick as card stock or transparencies. Though, the bypass multipurpose slot is single sheet, hand feed only, making larger projects impractical. The lack of an automatic document feeder also reduces process time of projects with multiple input sources.

Weighing in at 42.5 pounds, the unit is not exactly portable, but still reasonable in both size (19 in x 17 in x 12 in) and weight. It is an analog type copier, and thus operates as a stand alone unit with no expandability, or connectivity to outside input sources such as a PC. Its production and enlargement ratios are quite good, however, for an analog unit, ranging from reductions as low as 70 %, withenlargements as high as 141 %. These ratios are adjustable in single percentage point increments, or selectable preset increments of 70 %, 81 %, 115 %, and 141 %.

Canon’s rapid FUSION technology makes warm up time virtually zero, allowing a true first copy time of ten seconds. Additional copies produce at a rate of 10 pages per minute when using letter sized paper as both the input and output source. When legal sized output is used, the Canon Copier PC-920 still maintains a rapid 9 pages per minute copy speed. The print technology is laser, with monochrome output, meaning your professional documents will always come out clean, and crisp, and images can be scanned as well into black and white thanks to a built in photo mode.

With a minimum copy size of only 2 x 3.5 inches, even business cards can be copied, along with all types of standard document formats, and three dimensional objects such as books or magazines.  A limited sized platen document glass of only 8 in by 11.7 in means larger input sources above standard, letter sized paper will not fit onto the copy device.

Exposure control is manual, so fine tuning of brightness is made easy and, with a maximum copy output of up to 100, making fast, large quantities of multiples is not a problem. Changing toner is also simplified with the Canon Copier PC-920, thanks to Canon’s unique, and patented, single cartridge system. With Canon’s system, a drum unit is eliminated entirely, leaving only an easily swappable, high capacity toner cartridge to be dealt with, while other brands require tedious, staggered toner and drum changes.

The  is designed with desktop use in mind, for a variety of workload demands. Though, certain limitations due to its small stature do apply, such as the limited document glass, as an all around, personal unit it functions very highly. And with a very easy setup, this hardware can be ready to go right out of the box.
